How important do you think a man’s role in family life is?
For us, it’s truly essential. As I’m raising two young children and expecting our third, it’s hard to overstate the importance of my partner’s role. He’s the pillar of our family. He works hard, takes care of us, and makes sure the bills are paid.
Since we live in the countryside, there’s always plenty to do — house maintenance, tractors, animals. I could never expect that when he comes home from work, he should also start cleaning, doing laundry, cooking dinner, or putting the kids to bed. That just wouldn’t be realistic.

First of all, I don’t work outside the home, so the household tasks are naturally my responsibility. Secondly, I’m not the one fixing the roof, feeding the animals, or repairing the tractor — that’s his area. When the roles are divided, life becomes so much simpler.
When my partner spends the day at work and then continues with farm chores in the evening, he often comes inside quite late — and he needs a full night’s sleep. I breastfed both of our children for a year and a half, waking up every one to three hours most nights. My partner slept through the night, and during the day he took care of everything else. Meanwhile, I could focus on the children, the home, and rest with the baby when needed.

We’re also very fortunate that my partner’s parents help us a lot — that support makes a big difference. Of course, every family is different, and people organize things in their own way.
How is it in your family — how have you found a balance that keeps everyone happy?
